A Thanksgiving Morning Negotiation
I stepped into this Thanksgiving morning with a soft grin, a warm cup, and a silent prayer that my stomach behave itself today. I told it kindly, "Please don't rumble like you're vexed and push me to my throne under duress. Not today."
And with that negotiation out of the way, I let the aura of Thanksgiving settle around me—a moment where Kindness Spoke first in a whisper, reminding me to move gently through the day.
When Goodness Shows Up Late
I noticed small gestures from people whose hearts still allow light in—tiny reminders that goodness still wanders this world, even if it shows up late… and even if the ones receiving it treat it like a distant or suspicious offering.
Just last evening, on my commute home, I witnessed one of those rare moments. A young lady—I wish I had her name—stepped off the little minivan we were riding in. Six of us remained inside. Before leaving, she turned back, reached into her purple leather clutch, and paid the driver, telling us our fares were already covered.
We belted out our thanks like a small choir.
When People Reject the Blessing
But here's the part that tugged at me…
As each person got off the van, they stretched out their hands and paid the driver anyway, almost refusing to receive the very blessing they had just been given.
People will reject generosity when they don't know how to receive it.
Some hearts have been mishandled so long that even grace feels threatening.
It was in that moment that Kindness Spoke again, louder this time—teaching me that not everyone knows what to do with softness, even when it arrives wrapped in sincerity.
My Quiet Corner of the World
And here I am this morning—happily tucked in the midst of my vanilla, plum, and oak-wood candle flickering… crafting, creating, and savoring my solitude.
No fuss.
No noise.
No unexpected guests ringing my bell like they're the ghost of mashed potatoes past.
Today is simple, warm, and honest.
My spirit is sound, my mind is steady, and let me be clear—
I am definitely not looking to be found.
If you catch me chowing down on some slow-cooked goodness, just know I prayed for the food to peacefully glide down my middle passage.
Honoring the Small Mercies
Happy Thanksgiving from my quiet corner of the world.
May your pot behave itself, your peace stay intact, and may nobody stress you into eating dessert too early.
As my journey continues, Kindness Spoke one last time, reminding me to honor the small mercies, the gentle gestures, and the quiet grace shaping my days.
